Simple Guide to Overcome Your Writer’s Block

Looking at the ceiling thinking about what to write next or forcing yourself to go with the flow and write whatever comes to you but, your mind is completely blank. This phase is very common for writers’ mostly professional writers. And if you have anxiety or ADHD then the entire will worsen. But even at your worst you can count on two simple things and try it out. First, understand what writer’s block is and how you can overcome it.

  • What is Writer’s Block?

Writer’s Block itself is a psychological condition where a writer is unable to write anything fresh. Physically they might have the strength to sit down and have the urge to right but their minds are fogged as they can’t think of anything new or translate their thoughts into simple words. Before you dive into how you can overcome it you need to learn about it in a bit detailed way:

  • Understand the blocking motif

The only reason behind writer’s block is nothing but F-E-A-R. The fear of not being liked by their readers, or fear triggered by something they are willing to write. For writers, validation often translates to fear of being misjudged and often people face this condition due to excessive thinking and being overwhelmed by everything they hear, see, and imagine. Sometimes it can also be like a physical pain where not being able to write can be a reason for many writers.

  • Embrace your occasional mediocrity

Often writers have to write in the premeditated time given by the publishers, and this can be a reason for your block. Writing something life-changing and at the same time writing on time can’t happen. So, you have to pick one of them. If you are willing to write something path-breaking then give yourself the time and if you are willing to finish the project on time then you must be prepared to embrace your mediocrity. Understanding your pattern of writing and how you thrive is very important. If you are not willing to compromise on the quality of your writing then first finish it and then bring alterations to your piece.

  • How to Unblock Your Mind?

Overcoming this situation is simpler than you can think. Everything can be sorted if you are willing to bring the change in your life. You might have heard these solutions before but the willingness to change is more important than trying it out half-heartedly.

  • Talk about it

Before you talk about it, find the right person who will be willing to listen to you. Not everyone is bothered about writer’s block; their mechanic approach to this sensitive topic might turn out to be a disaster. So, you need to choose someone who can empathize with you and listen to you wholeheartedly.

  • Write it out

In many cases, writers don’t have too many friends with whom they can share their feelings. And in this case, writing it out can help. Try writing about how you are feeling at this very moment, whether you are feeling pain or any physical condition that you can experience at the moment write about it. Once you have written about leaving it like that. On the next day or a few days later read a similar piece, a memoir tastes better when it is old. You can also read your old journals if your block has been triggered by a lack of validation.

  • Get moving

Next, start to move more, this is a simple technique to oxygenate your thinking pattern. Physically moving you can also try some outdoor activities that you enjoy with your family or just with your pet. Or you and proceed to the next chapter or you can also skip the particular incident that has triggered the block.

Follow a simple routine, if you follow a simple routine of all the aforementioned topics then you will easily come out of that situation and it will also allow you to gain more insight and eventually you will come out of that situation. Not everything will work for everyone. So, try a few things out and observe which one works for you the best. Try to follow a simple exercise routine that fits your routine.
