1.  Nobel Prize in Literature

Nobel is one of the most prestigious awards in any field it is awarded based on an individual's remarkable contributions in a particular field. It started back in 1901, and this Swedish honor is given as the will of Alfred Nobel. Authors are also nominated for this award which goes under the category of Literature. In order to be qualified for the award, the person needs to be nominated in the list at least twice. Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize in Literature back in 2016.

2.  Pulitzer Prize

This elite and prestigious award is presented every year by the Columbia University. It was first embarked in 1917 and since then, it has been considered as the highest award for distinguished writing across multiple genres, including books, poetry, and even songs. Barbara Kingsolver is one of the recent winners who received the award for her fictional novel ‘Demon Copperhead’. 

3.  Booker Prize

This European award is limited to Ireland and the United Kingdom only and is presented for the best-written novel in English. It was previously called Man Booker Prize since its establishment in 1969 and later on, it changed to only Booker Prize. Paul Lynch is the recent winner of this award for his creation ‘Prophet Song’. 

4.  International Booker Prize

This is the counterpart of the Booker Prize which is offered internationally to the global authors. Started back in 2005, it became an annual award in 2016. In this case, the book has to be written in English or should at least have a version translated into English. For the latter situations, the author and the translator both can receive the award. 

5.  PEN America Literary Awards

This award was initiated back in 1963 and marks the best and most remarkable literary works across all genres. It is an NPO which was established in 1922. This award mainly focuses on the avenues of expression in America and freedom of speech, constructed through literature. Percival Everett recently received this award for the book ‘Dr. No’. 

6.  National Book Award

This award for authors was established back in 1950. This award is presented to authors who have offered the best of American literature. Since 1989, the National Book Foundation, an NPO has been the award for major literary contributions across all genres. It occurs annually and one of the recent winners is Justin Torres who received the award for his book ‘Blackouts’. 

7.  Neustadt International Prize for Literature

It is a joint initiative between the University of Oklahoma and World Literature Today. Since 1970, this awarded every two years for the authors and considers their work as a whole as well as an individual book. Ananda Devi is one of the recent winners of this award for her priceless contributions. 

8.  National Book Critics Circle Award

The National Book Critics Circle Award started in 1976 and since then it has been presented annually in America. This award aims to shed more light on some of the most remarkable books across every genre which have been published last year. However, the nominated books must be published in English and in the USA. Lin Ma received the latest award for ‘Bliss Montage: Stories’. 

9.  Edgar Awards

Named after Edgar Allan Poe, this is a prestigious award that every author wishes to achieve in their life. The award is presented by the Mystery Writers of America. The award explores the best contributions of last year in the genre and nominates the best authors. The award is exclusive to genres like major mystery, crime-based stories, and non-fiction. Danya Kukafka received the award for Notes on an Execution. 

10.  The Writer’s Prize

This award to presented to the authors who have successfully offered their literary excellence through their work. It can be awarded to authors from any genre, except books for children. The book must be published in the UK and written English to be eligible. This award has a lot of other names as it was previously known as the Folio Prize, the Rathbones Folio Prize, and The Literature Prize.
